Reading for pleasure in early years

The DfE's new reading framework (published July 2023) emphasises the importance of reading widely and inspiring pupils to read for pleasure alongside the teaching of phonics in the early years.

To support you in motivating your pupils to develop a love of reading, we've put together a selection of recommended titles including picture books, poetry and rhyming texts, and books to help develop core social skills such as empathy and resilience.

We've specially selected quality texts that will engage and inspire pupils alongside their daily phonics reading book.

Can’t find a list to suit your needs? Looking to create your own reading spine in the early years or KS1? Let us create a bespoke list for your pupils – just get in touch at hello@peters.co.uk or call 0121 666 6646 to chat through your requirements.
